Calling All Walkers – and people looking forward to SPRING! Come out and enjoy a 5K walk and TAKE STEPS to help us prevent violence in our community!

Girls Inc of Worcester, the Rape Crisis Center of Central MA and the YWCA of Central MA/Daybreak are again coming together to raise awareness and much needed money for important violence prevention programs in our community provided through our organizations.

Date: Sunday, April 25th

Time: 11AM registration; 1PM walk starts

Silent Auction/Raffle/Face Painting and Clowns/WXLO – Lots of family fun!

Place: Starts and ends at the YWCA at Salem Square next to the Library and winds a 5K route through Worcester, including Institute and Elm Parks

I am using my blog and facebook pages to personally ask you to talk with your colleagues at work, your friends at Church, your families and neighbors to CREATE A TEAM and join us that day!  With our portion of the proceeds from the walk, Girls Inc funds our nationally recognized Friendly Peersuasion Program for middle school girls in schools across our community.  In Western MA, a 9th grade girl recently killed herself as a result of cyber-bullying – you don’t have to hit someone to create an act of violence. Your presence, and the money you raise with personal sponsorships goes directly to help girls find their voices, learn about and form healthy relationships that reduce negative risk behaviors and support them to grow up to be strong, resilient women!

Next Steps:

1.      Go to http://takingsteps.org/ to register

2.      Put the date on your calendar

3.      Get your friends together - be a mentor and bring a kid!

4.      Get friends and neighbors to sponsor and support you

It’s easy to get a group together – it’s great exercise and it’s for the best cause: for our communities’ girls, women and children!  It’s a great example to set at work, at home, at school.  It’s a fun walk – it’s a very important cause!  Our girls are our future!

Thank you in advance!
