Girls Celebration 2011

April 20, 2011 - 4:30pm to 7:00pm
Blais Pavilion in the Aaron Lazare Research Building UMass Medical School
364 Plantation St.
Worcester, MA 01605

Girls Incorporated of Worcester celebrates our signature event of the year - Girls Celebration 2011 to honor teen girl awardees and local community leaders and corporate partners.

The event will feature our special guest speaker, Kathrine V. Switzer, best known as the woman who challenged the all-male tradition of the Boston Marathon in 1967 and became the first women to officially enter and run the event. Her entry created an uproar and worldwide notoriety when a race official tried to forcibly remove her from the competition. Three decades later, the incident continues to capture the public imagination and is, in part, the reason Switzer has dedicated her multi-faceted career to creating opportunities on all fronts for girls and women. Her bib number, 261, has become a symbol to break down barriers.
