Assistant Director of Afterschool Programs

Reports to: Director of Programs

Position Status: Non-Exempt / Hourly


Summary of Position
The Assistant Director is responsible for the planning, oversight, safety, and implementation of the program, ensuring participants have access to engaging and developmentally appropriate learning opportunities during the school year and summer, aligned with the Girls Inc. National curriculum. This role supervises program staff and volunteers while fostering positive relationships with participants, families, partners, and other Girls Inc. of Worcester (GIW) departments to promote retention and engagement.

 

Responsibilities: 

Program Management & Development
• Oversee program budget and spending in conjunction with the Director of Programs.
•Develop and maintain a positive, equitable, and supportive learning environment.
•Coordinate and facilitate programming for both summer and the school year.
•Develop, implement, and manage curriculum, daily club, and classroom schedules tailored to different age groups and interests.
•Organize and provide branding, marketing, and grant content based on program performance.


Supervision & Staff Development
•Hire, train, and supervise program staff, ensuring programming aligns with Girls Inc. National guidelines.
•Oversee staff and volunteer training to ensure alignment with youth development best practices and organizational policies.
 

Community Engagement & Partnerships
•Coordinate with corporate and community partners, ensuring compliance with reporting and paperwork requirements.
•Attend and participate in parent meetings in collaboration with the Wellness and Equity Department.                                        •Oversee and strategize program recruitment and retention efforts.

Logistics & Operations
•Manage program data collection, outcome measurement, and pre-/post-testing for funders and Girls Inc. National.
•Receive and process daily snack and meal deliveries from Friendly House, ensuring proper documentation.
•Attend walk line daily (0.5 miles from GIW) as needed for participant pickup.

Event & Transportation Responsibilities
•Attend evening and weekend events as assigned to support programming.
•Operate the GIW van for participants and supply transportation (valid driver’s license and clean driving record required).
•Maintain reliable personal transportation for travel to program locations and events.


Physical Requirements
•Walk up to one mile daily for participant pickup.
•Safely lift and carry up to 25 lbs. for program setup and event materials.
 

Other Responsibilities
•Address behavioral concerns and communicate with parents/guardians as needed.
•Ensure accurate attendance data entry into the Girls Inc. system.
•Create informational resources for schools and students in collaboration with Fund Development.
•Perform other duties as assigned.

Work Schedule: 

This full-time position requires a 40-hour workweek, with flexibility to accommodate evening and weekend programming. Regular hours:
During Afterschool Programming
       •Monday–Friday: 10:00 AM – 6:30 PM / 9:30 AM – 6:00 PM
       •One day per week: 11:00 AM – 7:30 PM
During Summer Camp Programming
       •Monday: 9:30 AM - 6:00 PM
       •Tuesday-Thursday:1:00 PM - 9:30 PM -Youth Connect summer program
       •Friday: 9:30 AM - 6:00 PM

Qualifications: 

•Bachelor's degree in education, Social Work, or Public Health (or 5+ years of youth work experience with staff supervision).
•5+ years of supervisory experience.
•5+ years of experience working with children.
•3+ years of curriculum development and implementation experience.
•Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
•Experience developing and implementing youth programs.
•Ability to be certified in CPR and First Aid.
•Bilingual preferred.
•Ability to problem-solve and improve program operations.
