"She Votes" Mock Election at Girls Inc.

Release Date:
Monday, October 16, 2006

WORCESTER, MA, October 16, 2006 - One of the strongest indicators that an individual will vote as a young adult is exposure to the polls as a child.  This is why a "mock election" - in which girls simulate the process of voting for actual 2006 candidates for governor - represents a major component of the Girls Inc. She Votes campaign.  Girls Inc. knows the value of hands-on learning, so we are participating in the Girls Inc. National Mock Election, which will be held on Tuesday, October 24, 2006, from 2:30 - 4:30 pm, in the lobby of the Winthrop House, 125 Providence Street, Worcester.

The girls have been participating in discussions regarding the governor's race and ballot question, should gym be a required class for all students?  During the mock election day, they will have a private area to vote and then will be required to drop their completed ballot in the ballot box.  After our polls close, a committee of girls will count and recount the votes.  The girls will then send the vote tallies to the Girls Inc. affiliate in Washington, D.C.
