For ninety-three years, Girls Incorporated of Worcester has provided a safe and enriching environment for thousands of children.  During the summer months, Girls Inc. is committed to providing inner-city youth, who cannot afford the cost of summer camp, the opportunity to attend our quality programs offered at Camp Kinneywood, our 110-acre outdoor camp located in Worcester near the Holden Reservoir, and at Winthrop House, our in-town facility located at 125 Providence Street.

Changing Seasons, New Programs Coming!

At Girls Inc, we are making some exciting changes to our programming that will start this summer and really take off next fall. Like the spring weather with its temperature ups and downs and rainy days, these changes will require some getting used to! But we can promise you that they will be GREAT!

The statistics about childhood obesity and its health effects are startling and troubling, with the increased risks for diabetes, depression, risky behavior and learning problems well documented. That is why the primary focus of our new programming this fall will be on our intensive FIT...

Camp Kinneywood Clean-Up Weekend

Our hope is to have dozens of willing hands and hearts that will make light work as we get camp ready for the summer.  Girls Inc. needs adult volunteers ready to rake, paint, and clean. Volunteers may join us for one or both days and all are welcome; we have organized the work schedules in three hour blocks on both days.  Adults with carpentry and electrical background or volunteers willing to learn are encouraged.  We hope you will join us for this clean-up weekend - Saturday, May 30 and Sunday, May 31 from 9:30 am - 3:30 pm.  Refreshments and lunch will be served.

Taking steps girls

Over the last two weeks, Girls Inc has provided leadership for three important community programs: Dresses for a Cure (4/17), Take Our Daughters to Work Day (4/23) and the Taking Steps Walk (4/26) to end violence against women and families.  The best part of all of these programs is that girls took the opportunities be their best - to lead - to positively impact our community. 

On April 17, dozens of girls from across Central MA were able to purchase fabulous prom dresses and fashion accessories for $20 - a fraction of their real cost - and enjoy and/or participate in a fashion show...

Girls Inc is really excited about Take Our Daughters to Work Day this year.  We start the day with a great breakfast program at Winthrop House. Senator Harriett Chandler and Pattie Hallberg from Girl Scouts will help welcome everyone - and then I will do a special interview with our inspiring new friend Jane Coken-Ryan from UMass Medical School.  

As a special addition, we are inviting working women across the area to honor the girls as they return from their workday with their mentors at a special AFTER-WORK NETWORKING EVENT at Winthrop House!  Please consider joining us at Winthrop...

Dresses for a Cure, Worcester Technical High School and Girls Incorporated of Worcester are joining to help fight cancer by reselling prom and other dresses for all size from children to adult. All proceeds will go to UMass Memorial Foundation ’ s Walk to Cure Cancer. Let’s fight together, attend our fashion show or buy a dress at our sale and make a difference in the fight to find a cure.

Spring Update!

After a VERY LONG AND COLD winter, spring is coming! All of the signs are here! A couple of days of sunshine and 60 degrees - then back to the 30's and a snow squall... and then pretty soon the trees will turn green again and the flowers will bloom, and we will start to forget the ice storm and the 20 foot mountains of snow that piled up in parking lots and the downed limbs from trees - and enter into the renewal of Spring!

Here at Girls Inc, there is LOTS going on as we get ready for spring and we want to shout out that good news across Central Massachusetts!

Girls Inc.'s Gymnastics Team in Worcester's St. Patrick's Parade

Girls Inc.’s Gymnastics Team participated in Worcester’s St. Patrick’s Parade on Sunday, March 15, 2009.  This years theme was Irish Sights and Sounds.  The girls decorated their truck and themselves with plenty of green while they performed acrobats a long the parade route.  The day was beautiful and warm with an impressive turnout of spectators and other parade entries.  We hope to see you again next year!

Cathi Coridan, the executive director of Girls Inc. of Worcester was recently a guest speaker on Worcester Speaks Out, a Public Affairs Show in Worcester with host Greg Byrne.  Cathi and Greg discussed the many great services that Girls Inc. provides to girls in Worcester, as well as providing opportunities for you to help out.

WORCESTER, MA - Girls Incorporated of Worcester is honored to have Paula McCarthy, owner of Zia Grill on Shrewsbury Street, Worcester teach a monthly cooking class at Girls Inc. to the girls in the after-school program ages 8-12 years.
