Back from vacation and celebrating the summer programs
After spending my one week vacation driving to California, I have jumped right back into the wonderful world of Girls Inc.
- This week a group of 10 middle school girls had a jumpin' week of fun and exercise of Double Dutch Jumprope sponsored by the Red Auerbach Foundation.
- Over 70 children and youth had a great time at Camp Kinneywood, even in the rain! We appreciated Ms. Susan Sullivan's Letter to the Editor in the T&G last week.
- Today the children in the In Town program ended the week by going roller skating.
- The Girls Inc participation in ...

Lady Leos - Geniuses on the Move!!!
This week has opened a whole new world to 9 young Middle School aged women and me - the world of HOW TO THINK LIKE LEONARDO DA VINCI!! Based on Clark Alum Michael Gelb's book How To Think Like Leonardo DaVinci, these young women, along with several Girls Inc staff and volunteers are half-way through a journey focused on the seven principles: Curiosity, Learning by Doing; Sensory Learning; Sfumato (you have to look that one up!); Body/Mind connection; Art/Science Connection; and How Everything in Connected! We have studied Leonardo, practiced some yoga, gone on urban hikes and swimming;...

A CHALLENGE FROM A FRIEND - WITH THANKS
Deborah Penta is a great advocate and friend of Girls Inc!!!
Last week, she heard that enrollment at Girls Incorporated of Worcester’s Camp Kinneywood and In-Town programs (both programs are co-ed in the summer) was down 40% from our very conservative projections based on the struggling economy. Today, Ms. Penta, President of Penta Communications and the Female Leadership Interest Council (FLIC) issued a challenge to the greater Worcester community in support of Girls Inc...
WHAT A GREAT CELEBRATION!
Thursday's Girls' Celebration Event was my best day so far in 8 months and 1 week! Mayor Konnie Lukes talked about her experiences in the Girls Club in Waterbury, CT as she proclaimed Thursday Girls Celebration Day in Worcester; the trustees of the Fuller Foundation received a picture/citation, and their very own, and very special "admission ticket" to use the Fuller Foundation pool at Girls Inc this summer; Linda Cavaioli and Jean King each received standing ovations to honor them as advocates for girls; and Jennifer Paradee gave us such a beautiful - and enduring - gift of th
Girls Inc a Partner in the Worcester Summer Pool Program
The recently dedicated Fuller Aquatics Center at Girls Inc on Providence Street will be a busy place this summer. A public-private partnership was formed with three other youth serving agencies (YMCA, YWCA, & Boys and Girls Club), community based youth serving organizations and the City of Worcester over the last few weeks to address some of the needs created when the decision was made to close the City pools this summer. Through the City Manager's office, Community Based Organizations will be able to coordinate swim times for their members through this program, with possible
Girls Celebration - A Very Special Event!
Thursday afternoon, June 11, over 150 friends - old and new - gathered at Girls Inc's Winthrop House for a CELEBRATION event. We honored Dr. Jean King and Linda Cavaioli as our 2009 Advocates for Girls, dedicated The George F. and Sybil H. Fuller Foundation Aquatics Center and unveiled the beautiful Giving Tree mural, handcrafted for us by Jennifer Paradee. "I saw so many old friends that it was like a family reunion," said Maureen Gray, Board member at the end of the event. "They were so glad to be back."
GYMNASTICS SHOW - PICTURES AT LAST!!
Most of the pictures I took of the girls in action are blurry and don't begin to show how talented they are! So instead, I am posting pictures that I took of the girls in groups, with families and alone at intermission time!
Thanks to Michelle, Heather and the gymnastics parents for a great show last night! Best of luck at Nationals!!
